Re: Jack stands

I always use a square piece of 2x4 between the jack stand and the axle. It gives a little bit more height (1.5") and the wood slightly deforms under the weight to cradle it fairly well. Maybe some board stock underneath would give some height also or some larger jack stands.

Re: What Does the Windshield Wiper Nut Look Like?

The ORD 9 describes it as: "NUT, blind, low crown, br, chrome-pltd, No. 10-32NF-2 (use with Lion and Trico arms only). & NUT, mounting, No. 10-32NF (use w/Anderson Arms only)." I don't know which arm I have but I've only seen the brass "acorn" type nuts also which is what the...

Re: Canvas Case

I missed the original discussion but these were not BII (Basic Issue Items) for the truck. The BII can be found in the ORD 7 manual and a photo is in the front of 9-840 (fig 16). These would likely have been put in by the using unit. The military authorizes unit commander to pretty much do whatever ...

Re: How different is B1gearbox?

Bruce is right, internally they are not interchangeable. However, the late (B1 style) will bolt up to the engine and mount in the truck the same as the early transmission. I'm running a B1 transmission in my '54 now without any problems.

Re: Bracket

My slot is forward. Everything lines up perfectly on my truck. If it still doesn't line up, I would look at the fender and the fender mount for the fuel can bracket to make sure there isn't an alignment issue. I can measure my truck later to see how far from the fender cowling the base sits out but ...

Bow corner bolt holes

Greetings all, I was cleaning up my bow corners and noticed a difference in the bolt holes. The difference was in how they were punched out-some with the "rectangular" hole squared with the bow corner, the hole sides running parallel to the bow, and some with the hole punched about 45 degr...

Re: I'm back

Bill, The 25A system is stock OE for these. The radio trucks and some later trucks were upgraded to 60A and 100A systems depending on their need for the extra power. I've never taken one apart but it can't be that hard. As an electronics tech by trade, I'd just be careful pulling it apart to keep ac...

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Macibell111,

It would be on the top left plate on your glovebox. It will be labeled as "Date Del." If you look at DAP's photos of the crossmembers, which hole pattern does your damaged one have?

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Thanks Cav Trooper, Yours falls in line with the rest of our '54s. If I am correct, the SN on your truck correlates to a May 54 delivery. With the exception of DAP's crossmembers, it looks like the '54s generally had the late style, one-piece pintle which we've always associated with the B1s. This w...

Re: m37 rear leaf springs

IAW the ORD 9 TM, the M37 and the M42 use the same spring package whereas the M43 & V41 use the same spring package in the rear; the M37, M42, and M43 use the same spring package in the front.

My '54 M37 has 7 in front, 11 in back.

Might be you have the M43/V41 springs?

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Hi DEP, I see, A & B are definitely the early style, 4-hole crossmember design. Interesting they came off post '54 trucks. As '54 was the last year for the early trucks, were they on B1s or do you mean late '54 trucks? C is the late style, 8-hole crossmember. The quickest way I recognize them is...

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Hi Ken, Thank you for the feedback. It matches up with the other '54s. There is one early style with a February delivery date that I'm waiting on confirmation but all the others so far have been the late style/one-piece pintle, at least back to January. My pintle will open without turning it but it ...

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Milsurp, Yes, all M37s were built with rotating/swiveling pintles as I understand from reading the manuals and TMs of the day. I think Maxim pretty much summarized it accurately. However, if you want to go back to the original, just confirm the hole pattern on the crossmember before looking for part...

Re: 1954 Rear Crossmember Design

Rick, There was a notice abut M37B1 trucks in the PS Magazine, issue 82, dated 1960 that refers to two contracts: DA-20-018-15711 & DA 20-018-17307. The article described turning the pintle to the left or right to allow clearance for it to open enough for the trailer lunette ring. The article wa...
