Re: 6volt m37

I'd convert to 12V!

Very easy, and 12V components are much more readily available (and cheaper) than 6V. You can keep you 6V starter in place, just change out bulbs, fuses flashers and battery!

Re: Walter

My truck was converted to 6V! Yes, SIX VOLTS by someone in it's history. Most likely, when they swapped the 241 hemi into it. I changed the hemi to 12V electronic ignition, (small block distributor drops right in). So I converted the whole truck to 12V. However, I left the 6V starter on the hemi. Tu...

Re: Walter

Nice truck! Of course all M-37s are. So . . . where did the name come from?

My family has names all of our vehicles. The M-37 is referred to as "The Galloping Goose".

Good luck with the project.

Re: Towbar or Trailer? A Penny For Your Thoughts.

Flat towing isn't that bad. Recommend pulling the rear axles and replacing with front flanges. (The ones you kept when you installed locking front hubs). The castor, or lack there of, may make the steering not freely return to center. I never had that problem, but others have. The fix seems to be bu...

Re: What modern engines would you choose?

111 MPH!!! Scary!! I don't know how fast I've pushed mine. I'm guessing about 90 MPH as the hemi was screaming, (so was the transfer case). I'm guessing that I was pushing 5K rpms. Backed off, and never did that again. Ford 300 is a great engine... Good torque & can make decent hp (250 -300) wit...

Re: 318 with problems....

Your problem does indeed sound like a timing issues, most likely ignition timing. Severely retarded ignition timing can cause un-burnt and burning fuel to enter the exhaust system. The symptoms you describe are severe, but possible. I had it happen with a Corvette I owned that had the Hooker side pi...

Re: What modern engines would you choose?

Yeah, Yeah . . . I know, I'm five years late to this party. But I like this topic. I'll come out in defense of the Ford Windsor engines, (289, 302, 351) yes, I know they made a 221 255 & 260 as well. Pretty much indestructible in my experience in drag racing and off road. The high winding nature...

Hey M60TC. . . . . . . TC on what model? Straight up, A1, A2 or A3?

PS - Is there any way to donate other than PayPal. I avoid PayPal like the plague.

Re: Tyres Problem Resolved...

Just a thought. . . . Has anyone ever researched re-hubbing. Maybe there is a bearing set in the Timken catalog that would allow running, Ford, GM or Mopar, Dana-60 hubs on the M-37 spindles? Re-drill the drum, or use the matching discs. Not sure about axle flanges. Just a thought that popped into m...

Re: Detroit Locker in M37 ??

IIRC the Detroit No-Spin KS-22 was only made during WWII after the WC Dodges were bogging down in the Italian mud. The blue print for the unit were destroyed in a fire, and they never felt the need to re-engineer them. If you have one, it's very rare and very good as well. Great locker for the REAR....

Agreed! Wish I'd thought of it. Guess I can get rid of the 2 foot section 3/4" dowel I keep behind the seat!

Re: Gas in Oil

I've seen that before on L heads. Usually your discover it with an engine that has a history of flooding upon starting. However, if the vehicle is run at operating temp for any amount of time, the gas in the oil will vaporize and burn off via the PCV. If it's a fuel pump failure, continually introdu...

Re: Gas in Oil

90% of the time, a crankcase full of gas is caused by a faulty fuel pump. The fact that you see bubbles in the pressure side of the pump adds to this diagnosis. Sometimes you can get a out of box failure on brand new parts. Somewhat rare on NOS M37 parts, as they had good QC back then. Notoriously b...
