New member first question

Hello everyone, Matt here. I purchased a 1953 M37 and registered it here in August last year. I got it running at that time by replacing the points, etc with an electronic ignition module. I had other projects to finish so I put the truck on hold until two weeks ago. The previous owner had sandblasted and primed the truck years before I got it so I have no bumper numbers. Is there any way to find out what they were? I would be interested in the service history of the truck. My other question is about the engine tag. It says it was overhauled 6-8-64 at AN.AD. What is AN.AD.? Bore says 000, mains is stamped 10 under label -10, and rods is stamped 30. Any ideas on what that means would be appreciated.

Welcome to G741, the best Dodge M37 info. site on the net. Your engine tag indicated it was overhauled on May 8th 1964 at Anniston Army Depot Alabama. http://www.anad.army.mil/aboutANAD.shtml The 000 indicates a standard cyl bore, The crank's main bearings were turned 10 thousandths undersize and the rod journals turned 30 thousandths under. How does the engine operate? No knocks or smoke may indicate a good solid rebuild with no need to worry about it unless something else hints at a need to tear into it. That is exactly what I needed to know, especially the location of the rebuild. The truck seemed to run ok but didn't idle. I am guessing that had to be a carb issue. I tried uploading pics but didn't work.

I do not have bumper numbers either. I was hoping to find past history also. Is there another way?

Here's how to find out what your bumper numbers were with just a serial number.....I haven't tried it myself, but I'm cutting and pasting this response from your same question elsewhere in this forum.

Hi Marine,

Over on another website called Steel Soldiers there is an ongoing thread named "2012 vin info thread". A gentleman over there apparently has access to a lot (not all) old records for old military trucks. He will look for your serial number and post what he finds, if he finds anything,

It might be worth a try to see if he can help.
