valve seats repaceable?

Post by peter e mark »

Hello weekend engine rebuilders, and todays question is : Are the valve seats the replaceable type, or must I pull the engine out and have the block cut? Thank You, Peter Mark

I believe that the exhaust is but the intake is cut into the block. If you have the head off look close and you can see a ring around one and not the other

OK I just looked it up to be really sure. The exhaust valve seat can be replaced.

Thank You rixm37, I am happy at least the exhaust valve fuction can be restored without removing the engine. Are you familiar with replacing these seats? Is it , in fact, something that can be done in the field by people like KNATTRASS and me?

The only song I hear when working on the M is money, money, money.... we put a hard press on here last week to get onto rebuilding! We installed the cab yesterday for the final time after spending a few days installing the mechanicals -wiring, brackets, floor boards... We had the wheels blasted, we 2 coat epoxy/acrylic enameled them and took them to the industrial tire guy to install the new tires. Z got all the wiring and cables connected last night. We had found some small 24v clear led lights for back ups and a rear cargo lamp. Big disappointment in the renu'd fuel tank thou - we noticed some rust on the edges and the coating was peeling around the rear drain so it has to come out again.

Good Lord, You are certainly involved in a full restoration ! When do you find the time to do all this? Do you sleep? Are you nocturnal? A vampire maybe, that must be it...All joking aside ,(at least for a moment) I certainly would like to see your truck when your done...Peter

Hi Peter
I have not replaced one. You should probably ask Charles T. what he thinks.

Oh Charles, the question of installing replacable valve seats, is this doable in the field, (by me) or must the engine go to the shop?...Peter Mark
