genny wants to be a motor

strange one today... I fired up the dark green one, ran it around for a bit, remembered I needed to tighten the fan belt. pulled up to the shop killed the ignition and was met with a hum..... turned the ignition on and off a few times, the hum persisted. I jumped out of the truck and started making my way to the battery box. when I got to the hood the hum was louder. latches off I ripped open the hood and was met by a faint smell of burnt belt. I look down at the generator and shes spinning at 1200rpm. I reached down and pushed on the loose fan belt, the genny stopped ?

I know my belt was supper loose but I cant help but think it should not do that.

The Amp(current) contacts in the regulator are stuck.
Could also possibly two wire frayed together.
When you apply voltage to any Generator through the current terminal it will
Run like a motor.
Cheap way to check one also.
If it runs as a motor, it will charge as a Generator.
