timing chain
how much flex or movement should a military (double roller) timing chain have. its currently off the engine so im seeing if serviceable.....

If the chain was still on the engine you turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the top span of the chain is tight. If the amount of slack in the lower span is greater than three-quarters of an inch, replace the timing chain. See TM 9-1840A Ordnance Maintenance manual. Hope this helps

I would replace the chain and sprockets since they are already removed from the engine.
These items are relatively inexpensive and if you plan on driving your truck for a long time it would money well invested. Make sure to look at the alignment of the oiler tube when you reinstall the timing gear parts.

The tube is located behind the large upper gear and comes down to the right hand side, to oil the bottom gear / chain area.
