Gas tank install ?

Post by Tom P »

My M never had a gas tank in it. It had a homemade tank in the bed.
I'm finally getting around to install a nice tank I got from MWM a Long time ago and make it right.
It did have the lower straps and upper supports still mounted to the front angle cross member.
No bolts in the rear cross member, so my question is how long are those bolts?
I know they are 7/16-20x?
Thanks

The bolt length should be listed in the parts book.

Thanks But my parts book: TM P-2320-212-20P
Page 40 shows everything but the two bolts, It shows two nut/washer for the front end of the straps, nothing for the rear.
Don't list anything else on page 32,33.
I was hoping someone would know. If I have to I will pick up several lenghts starting at two inch I guess.

Tom,

ORD 9 lists the screw size as 7/16-20 x 1 1/4.

If not purchased already (and you're not going for 100pts) buy longer bolts. Makes installation WAY easier. 1 1/2" is what I used.

I put a new/reconditioned tank in my M a few months ago.
Also used new webbing on the metal straps. The extra
thickness on the new webbing made for a son-of-a-gun
to get the bolts started. So I got some longer bolts started
and sucked everything up into place. After a few weeks the
webbing had collapsed enough to replace the long bolts with
original. As mentioned: long bolts, short bolts... probably
doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
