Thanks Bruce, yes, they are quite expensive and only 6 ply, I wonder how they would go on an M37 as I thought 8 ply was the standard for these trucks?

Had another good day on the truck, got the second head on, I washed out and relubed all lifters and Viola!! - I have compression on all cylinders, 125psi plus or minus a couple of pounds. I got the valley back on, made sure I applied a bit of silicon to the manifold gaskets as there was some pitting on the water gallery surfaces that would have caused me greif, I static timed the distributor and got the alternator back on. Tomorrow I'll drop and clean the sump, fit the rocker covers and electrical and make the exhaust manifild gaskets...hopefully.....
How do I display photobucket pics on here with out bringing up the whole damn page?

Good on you mate!
Should be simple cut & paste from your host site? I am still looking on those 8 ply tyres for you.
These are a bit less expensive?

Good you got the lifter problem solved Tony, you seem to be making good progress. :D

When using photobucket to post a pic, place the curser on the image you want to post, below the info drop box will open then left click on the bottom line "IMG Code" and it should display "coppied" then on the post you are making right click then select paste, preview and the pic should appear.

Thanks Bruce & Carter....
ok, here goes!!

Best Regards - MM :D

Using a black sharpie marker I put a line across the lifter and placed it in each lifter tube and rotated it until I found the position that gave me a clean wipe on the stripe, this meant I had found the correct profile for the lifter to the cam lobe thus meaning I had found it's correct position.

My truck is Right hand Drive so I am in the drivers seat...
Got the rest of the engine together today, went ti fire it up and the Holley was Pissing fuel out everywhere so I suspect the needle and seat are stuck so I gave it up for today, Try again tomorrow...

It looks like a bit of work to install the trans from the top with the body still on, or did you use the chain hoist just to help hold it in place?

Hey.........you don't look like the Tasmanian Devil in your avatar.

You're right Bert, Taz looks far smarter than me

It fired first time, the lifters sounded like crap until the oil eventually worked it's way in there and the slight miss it has is a plug I suspect but I'll have to sort that out later. Apart from a small carburettor fire caused by a sticking needle and seat it all went very well, getting the transfer sticks and handbrake back in were a different story entirely....

Todays Tally is as said, fired up, set the timing to 5 degrees BTDC as per the vacuum guage and confirmed by the book. Transfer levers, Jack shaft and front Prop shaft is in and with my Awesome Wife's help the guards and bonnet are on but not tightened yet. Tomorrows goal is to fit the rest of the gear up, top up all the lubes and take the bugger for a test drive.
One of my biggest online helpers with this whole mess has been Carter, he sent me a book that answers all the questions in an easy to understand manner and takes a practical approach to everything.

Here it is right next to the job at hand...

Image

Charles's hub bearing and nut setting procedure was excellent, I had my hub socket modified to take a 1/2" drive so I could use my tension wrench on it.

Image

Here's the reason these tyres are being canned, the separation around the retread is not good and the radial crack says these cases are fragged so I am going to have to find a replacement set soon, This is the worst tyre, the rest look ok but if ones crapped out there's a good chance the rest are too..

MM,

Good thing you saw that tread crack before it caught you off guard on the road somewhere. That would of ruined a fender and your day as well.

Rather than sitting here and not being used it's better off in your hands Tony since I have no plans to own another civ Dodge of those years, it's good you could use it.

Had a real hack at it today, fenders, inner fenders + wiring fitted and secured, all lubes completed, I now only have to clean and refit a radiator tube that has decided to leak and battle the floor panels, for whatever reason these are a dog to fit, nothing lines up, I guess the accident it had a few years before I got it (It was origonally a home brew tow truck and it "met" an ambulance on the way to an accident) has put the body out of line but I don't remember it being such a problem last time I had the floor out :|
I'd upload more photo's but photobucket isn't always upload friendly here...

I got the truck finished Friday night, rolled it out of the garage and took it for a spin and didn't get 2 kilometers and got pulled up by a breathalyser unit, after they gave me the thums up for it (and blowing 0.00) I was on my way. After doing some hill clumbs and decents, some highway stretches (not what you guys would call highways) and some braking tests it was all as good as it can be. Saturday dawns, I peel myself out of bed, pack a few items in the truck and set off to the car show, after a sunny start it all went to crap weatherwise but all in all it was a good day with plenty to see...
Harry showed up in his WC Dodge and Geoff bought his Willy's Jeep, there were plenty of classics, both modern and vintage to look at and I would take them all home if I could

Best Regards - MM :D
