Another Fuel System Question!

I am to the point of needing advice on the original firewall mounted fuel filter on my Lori's M-37! How do I take it apart to check and clean the innards? Is there a replaceable filter/element inside? I can get a picture if anyone needs a shot of what I'm looking at! Tim

The filter element is a simple stack of bronze or brass washers which are paper thin. The gas flows through this stack and sediment is captured. All you need to do is drain the cannister, and unscrew the bolt from the bottom of the filter. The filter body and element will drop free and then it will be self explanatory as to how it works. I like to do stuff like this outside so I do not have issue with gasoline vapors. I am assuming this is the filter on the voltage regulator bracket

You are correct about the location! Outside is good for this type of job, I agree! I'll plan on this project tomorrow. Hope it comes apart without ruining any type of gasket or O-ring seal!! We'll find out!! Thanks for the info!! Tim

Can anyone advise the best place to buy the brass inverted flare fittings?.
I need to sort out the tubing from my carb to the distributor and also the fuel filter.
What are the sizes that the M37 generally uses as
I would lke to keep some for spares also.

Yeah, you would think so wouldnt you Lifer, but their proving harder to find than I thought.
I will have a look in the local autoparts store tomorrow and see what they have.
What sizes should I be looking for?

The ORD 9 SNL G-741 lists all the tubes, hoses and fittings giving their dimensions as well. There are 5 pages of vent and fording plumbing and 7 pages of fuel supply and delivery plumbing.

The fittings are 1/8" NPT. 90 degree inverted 3/16" tube brass flare You will need at least 4 , plus 2 more for the gas tank ans brake vent lines . I got mine from Valley hydraulic Service , 610 Stevenson road ,South Elgin, IL,60177 , email www.valleyhydrsulic.com They have a great selection of just about everything you will need . The fittings are a little hard to find as most modern vehicles use Quick connects and few brass fittings . Bob k

Stu, I understand your problem having had to source Wentworth hardware from the UK in the past. To all our over seas folks, if you ever get hung up for fittings or hardware that is SAE or NPT send me a PM. I'm retired and most stuff is within 5 miles of my house since I live on the ant hill. I just went into the garage and I have around 15 90s some 45s and also straights in 1/8" NPT x 3/16" inverted flair fittings. I bought out a parts house years ago of their fittings and Doorman stuff, the left side of my garage is all hardware , also I never turn a profit on anything
