New M37 owner - advice wanted

What is a good tow bar to use on a M37? The only military ones I ever seen were for 2 1/2 and 5 Ton trucks, and weighed about 150 lbs.

OK. NIX THE U-HAUL TRAILER, BUT WHET MAKES YOU THINK THE RENTED EQPT TRAILER IS ANY BETTER MAINTAINED THAT A U-HAUL RENTAL?? CK OUT THE M AS STATED ABOVE AND DRIVE HER HOME, 8 MILES IS NOT ALOT, BUT ALSO STATED ABOVE, HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE STANDING BY TO LEND A HAND, GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN.

Virtually all rental shops make a living by renting out equipment. The equipment stays local, and these vendors see it almost everyday. They have a personal investment in this stuff. Its in thier best interest to maintain it. Anything like a Uhaul that you can drop off at a gas station or convenience store where the only thing checked out is the paper work can't be a good thing. I've never ever seen a grocery clerk of pump jockey doing a brake job on a Uhaul in the parking lot. The only time they ever get any service is with an obvious fault - like lighting. Uhauls mandate is if its ain't broke - don't look at it.

Uhaul for me is an absoute last resort.

I HAVE RENTED MANY TRAILERS FROM MY LOCAL U-HAUL. THEY HAVE A FULL TIME SHOP AND PERSONNEL TO MAINTAIN THEM. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THEIR EQUIPMENT. WEATHER IT BE TRAILERS OR TRUCKS. I HAVE TOWED THEM FROM FLORIDA TO NY, NY TO FLORIDA FORM VT TO NY, NY TO VT. AND MANY PLACES INBETWEEN. SO GO FIGURE. THERE'S ALWAYS A POSSIBILITY OF A BREAKDOWN WITH ANY MACHINE.

You are lucky to be near an actual Uhaul dealer then. With a full service shop at thier disposal I would imagine that they take the time to inspect thier equipment. I'm refering to the Mom and Pop Uhaul rental depot's found on the side of the road at convenience stores and gas stations the continent over. I would wager a healthy sum that there are alot more of these drop-off and pick-up stations around than there are full service Uhaul shops.

As for mechanical failure, it can happen anywhere. I trust my own equipment more however as I know the history of it. I'd hate to rent a trailer that was undersized for my application and have it fail, only to discover that someone else previous to me had halued a (insert heavy oversized item here) and damaged it without anyone being aware. Rules and regulations exist not only to protect the current user from harm, but the next user as well.

Its as the old saying goes: "Use the right tool for the Job"...

YES I AGREE, THE SIDE OF THE ROAD U-HAUL DROP OFF LOCATIONS MAY BE A BIT DIFFERENT. I CHECKED THE CARRYING CAPACITY OF THE LARGEST U-HAUL CAR CARRIER, AND THE M WAS WITHIN LIMITS. THERE SPEC SHEET WOULD NOT ALLOW IT. THEY HAVE THREE DIFFERENT CAR CARRIERS, EACH WITH DIFFERENT CAPACITY, NOT INCLUDING THE TOW DOLLY. I AM SURE THERE IS AN OVERLOAD BUILT INTO THE TRAILERS. WHEN I LOADED THE M ONTO THE TRAILER THERE WAS NO, I REPEAT NO SAG. I TOWED IT BACK HOME OVER BACK COUNTRY HILLS,AND WINDING ROADS AND ON INTERSTATES, NOT ONCE DID I FEEL LIKE THE TRAILER WAS THE WRONG CHOICE. I HAVE TRAILERED ANY NUMBER OF BOATS SHORT AND LONG HAULS, AND U CAN FEEL IF ITS NOT RIGHT.
