Re: Carburetor Stud Size & Distance on Manifold??

Can anyone measure, or know, the stud size and distance apart (not center to center) for the carburetor mounting?? You might not need this information if you already have a gasket coming, but here's a photo of the manifold with measurements between the studs as well as center-to-center, which shoul...

Thanks. I don't work very fast, and I like to pay attention to details, which is why my M37 probably won't be ready to roll for some time yet, but as long as I'm enjoying the work, that's OK with me. :)

Re: Wheel cylinder direction

I believe I got it right using the feeler gauge method and adjusting both the upper and lower adjustments. If it’s not perfect, it is darn close. Sounds good. Ideally you want to achieve full lining surface contact with the drum when the brakes are applied, and with very little pedal travel, but wi...

Re: Reviving my M37 Restoration Project

This is a repair that I did a while ago. The floor under an M37 battery box often rusts out, since it's out of sight and tends to collect dirt and water (i.e., mud). Sorry, no 'before' picture. I cut out that section of the floor, made a template out of thin, stiff cardboard, and used the template a...

Re: Wheel cylinder direction

Make SURE that you adjust your brakes correctly. A lot of M37 owners don't follow the correct procedure. Follow the specific sequence for a "major" or "minor" brake adjustment as described in the appropriate technical manual for your M37-series vehicle. It can make a huge differe...

IF I read this information correctly in TM 9-1840C (someone correct me if I'm wrong):

M43 pilot without winch: 3
M43 with winch: 52
M43 without winch: 6,250
M43CDN: 409
M43B1: 1,902

Re: Reviving my M37 Restoration Project

Agreed-nice work! Nice looking work on the parts so far. Regards, Bert Thanks. It's fun to get back to my M37 project after a long hiatus. We've just started a new project (building a second garage), which we hope to complete before the end of the year. That should free up more space to work on my ...

Re: Wheel cylinder direction

I have been working on the brakes of my M37 and I believe the previous owner didn’t pay attention or know that wheel cylinders are left and right. I replaced them as I found them and now I may have them on backwards. Large cylinder facing forward (front shoe) or towards rear shoe? Back to the drawi...

Re: Reviving my M37 Restoration Project

Here are a few other items that I dug out of storage: This is a specialized tool that I made for adjusting the carburetor governor. I made it from a screwdriver, a couple of bronze bushings, and an old socket. The bronze bushings keep the DIY hollow-ground screwdriver centered, and I filed the socke...

Reviving my M37 Restoration Project

After ceasing work on my 1954 M37 restoration project for a number of years to spend my available time on a combination of historic house restoration and archaeological pursuits, I recently jump-started my M37 restoration project. I thought I'd post my work here as it progresses. I started posting m...

Re: M37 ID Data Plate Designs

I applaud your skill set but you do know you can get those NOS blank plates or repros from a plethora of vendors for around $10 ? Thanks, Murf. Actually, I have looked at what many different vendors are offering for both NOS and repro ID plates. All of the NOS ID plates that I've seen (so far) have...

Re: Patching Bed

The M37 bed previously had something bolted down (hose reel?). Over time that area has rusted through so there are now four 4"x4" patches of holes surrounding the original 1/2" bolt hole. The rest of the bed is in VG condition. Where would I find some bed material to cut out patches ...

M37 ID Data Plate Designs

The original ID data plate on my 1954 M37 was missing. It came with a replacement data plate (see below) that was apparently installed when it was converted back to an M37 in 1966 after an M42 Command Truck kit was removed. The replacement plate appears to be anodized instead of etched like the orig...

Re: Need help installing new rubber headlight bushings

I just started restoring the headlights on my 1954 M37. I blasted, etch primed, and painted the brackets that mount the headlights on the fenders, as well as the zinc/pot metal brackets that go under the headlight bodies. I just received a set of replacement rubber headlight mounting bushings/gromme...
