Axle Turns in Neutral

We have the rear drivers side tire and rim remove and the axle is blocked up while waiting for a new tire to be installed. We started the engine to charge the batteries a little. We noticed that the with the engine running and the transmission in neutral, the the axles/drum without the wheel is turn...

Astro Military Tire

Does anyone here use these? Price is reasonable. Are they radial and tubeless?
The website says 89 psi inflation which doesn't sound right for a M37 rim.
Appreciate any comments.

Determine model from serial number

We have a long wheel base truck without the rear body. The model number on the glove box data plate reads M37 so we suspect that either the glove box door or the body or both were not originally with this frame. The configuration of the body mount bracket leads me to this this was originally and amb...

Body Mounting to Frame Question

Does anyone have any ideas as to why the rear bodies of the pickup and ambulance were bolted to the frame at some locations while at some points the body just rested on the frame? Was this to allow for movement and flexing of ether the body or the frame? Just curious as we are making a custom rear b...

Oil Pressure Gauge Fogging Up

Bought a new oil pressure gauge. It is, I think, a new style as it has white plastic sides rather than clear plastic sides and the rim is thicker than the original. When the engine starts up , the gauge fogs. Any one else have this issue? Do you just have to accepted or can something be done? I read...

Exhaust Mailfild Crack Above Riser Bushing

After Installing new bushings for a new heat riser butterfly valve, I noticed a hairline crack just above each bushing. Above one of the bushings, it appears that the crack might have been there for a while. The other might be new and happened when the bushing were tapped in. The casting is only abo...

Head Bolts Without Sealant

When we installed the head after doing some valve work, I pretty much followed the TM except I used copper spray on the mtal side of the head gasket and Permatex anti-seize on the threads of the head bolts then torqued to 70 ft lbs. We have not seen any coolant leaks after running it. After reading ...

ETW1 Step Up Piston Gasket Is it needed

The carb kit I bought did not include this round gasket. My carb did not appear to have one in it when we took it a part. I was able to come up with a round flat gasket that will fit well enough to be installed how ever, the thickness of the gasket will raise the piston up slightly which also raises...

Need help with Carb Rebuild Question

While re assembling my carb, I noticed one of the kit parts was different that the original. The step up piston and rod shown in TM 9-1826A (1952) Figure 83 shows the step up piston having a small long diagonal hole thru it. The original part in the carb also had the hole but the replacement part di...

Re: Summer Winter Baffle on Exhaust Manifold

Thanks for the replies

Is it possible to remove the intake manifold from the engine without removing the exhaust manifold?

Summer Winter Baffle on Exhaust Manifold

Hi The summer winter butterfly in our exhaust manifold is seized. The slotted bracket on the outside moves but the shaft does not. The position of the butterfly is unknown. Is this a serious issue? If it is in winter mode, could this cause issues driving on a hot summer day? I wanted to avoid taking...

Gas Tank Vent Line

We don't have a tank yet but we are replacing the fuel lines. In the original configuration with the vent line connecting to the carburetor, was there some sort check of valve in the vent line
in case there was ever a fire in the carburetor? Thanks

Help with Dimensions for Custom Bed

We are thinking about fabricating a custom bend for a long wheel base M37/56.
Would anyone be able to tell me the vertical distance from the tope of the bed
side panels to the top of the deck of the bed?

Thanks

Long Wheel Base Truck

After working on the truck we bought months ago. We just recently realized that our vehicle had a wheel base of 126 inches. It doesn't have a rear bed and we discovered the long wheel base while measuring for a bed. I'm assuming that this is an M56. The data plate reads M37 and it had a 100 amp char...

Valve Guide Removal

Everything I read says to drive them down and break of the first half, then drive down the remainder.
Do these guides really beak off that easy? I am worried about cracking the block.
Has any one here don that? How did it go?
