DUMB QUESTION TIME..WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF?....

Post by Nickathome »

You lined up your engine to TDC but on the intake stroke? Would the engine be able to run at all? Just curious, not that I did this, I was just thinking about it.

Nope it would be 180 off (but you knew that) it would backfire through the carb.

And there would be no compression when each particular plug fired because they would be firing while the intake or exhaust valves were open.

Hey - it happened to us.... my son was pulling the distributor after a test drive to pull the RF filter. He spun the dist and installed it 180 out of phase. The engine acted like it had no spark and we only got it to backfire once via the carb and once out the exhaust. We guessed that he put it back 180 out - rotated it half a turn - fired right up. They said you can't install it like that, but our shaft was a simple slot design which had 2 possibilities.

Some engines will run 180* out...not well, but they will run.
