Front knuckle work

Post by MarkPick »

I have been working on my front knuckles. Gathered info from this site and Matt Gieselman's blog along with http://imageevent.com/moosecreekmaple/steeringknuckle

Bearing on both sides are in good shape, Seals are another story. Replacing them with new rubber seals (National), no more CR seals!

I also replaces the bronze bushing on the top with new bearings and races.

Contacted Charles at M series for a upgrade on the inner bronze bushings. Thanks Charles!

Felt retainers from Midwest Military. Thanks John!

Couple of words of advice:
When you go to remove or replace the inner shaft, WEAR GLOVES! Leather GLOVES. There is no greater joy than trying to line up the splines and then push in on it and need to turn it to aling and your knuckle finds the sharp edge of the knuckle houshing! OH HAPPY DAY!

Make sure you check the axle shafts where the seals rode. I had to polish mine up a bit, they were not pitted too bad, and cleaned up quick.
Have plently of rags! Your gonna need them!

Other than that, just take your time and enjoy working on your truck.
