brake line vent hose

Post by macibell111 »

I just finished putting in new brake lines from vpw and I noticed there is no vent hose connected to my master cylinder,it has broken off , I will not be fording at all, the petcock is still there ,My question is, do I need to put a vent line in and route it up inside the engine compartment to keep the MC free from dirt or can I just keep the petcock closed or cap it off???

You have to have a vent for the MC to work properly. I had the same problem, and solved it by running my vent up the left frame rail, as stock, then making a 90º bend, and going straight up towards the genny, to almost the top of the fender, where I made another 90º, and pointed the end of the tubing straight at the firewall. If that gets wet, then I have bigger problems then water in my brake system. I plan to wrap the loose end with metal screening to keep the mud daubers out, and zip tie it off so it doesn't rattle.
