Odd military tread pattern

Post by Paladin »

So, my M56C has really odd pattern tires on it. They are Goodyear, and have a cross hatch pattern, and say "mount on american rim only" on them. I've only ever seen tires like this once on the rat patrol trucks from North Africa in WWII? Anybody know anything about them? Can't seem to add pics yet, I'll work on it though.

I don't think so, aren't NDCC's the same bar pattern as NDT's, just with a more rounded edge? Those are what I have on my M38a1. These look like the pattern on say, expanded metal, but bigger, if that makes any sense? They do say "Heavy duty truck and bus balloon" on them as well? And are '50's manufacture.

Are you guys talking about the early WW2 half track and armored car tires? They looked like this;

That's what I had on my truck in 900-16 size and my (now failing) re-treads are fitted to, I'll get a pic for you later of the make and model.....

Yeah, mine are also 9.00 x 16 size. Wish they weren't so trashed, they are cool. Anybody know any history on them?

Yep, Mine were Goodyear Tyres too, "all weather" model, made in Great Britain, 9,00-16, for 5 degree rims only, 10 ply rating. I guess this will be more or less what you have. I found mine were soft compound and wore quickly, and as a result of being soft have caused the casing faliure at the retread join.

They look like the pattern on a lot of rear tractor tires.
