Crank Pulley questions???

Post by Wayne64 »

I found myself upset years ago that my crank pulley had no timing marks that I could see. I set the timing by vacuum and it has run fine. That has always bugged me so a while ago I bought a new pulley with marks. I now want to change it out and have two questions. First off; can the pulley only be bolted on in one way, meaning oddly spaced holes? Or do I have to fit the #6 piston stop for TDC?
Also has anyone changed out the pulley without pulling the radiator and backing out the bolts through the radiator hole with a universal socket?
I have a show on the 15th of June so this is my window to complete this.
Thanks much, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

The pulley has odd spaced holes and only bolts up one way. The bolts are only about a 1/2" long and can be removed with the radiator in place; from the top.

Thanks Bert I was hoping for that info. That's the next task as I took the red prime pulley and sprayed yellow over the timing ticks, wiped the yellow off to put it only on the lines. Next I taped off the marks and sprayed the pulley OD. Finally the timing mark area got sprayed with a clear coat. The next owner after I'm ashes should be happy :D
