How many feet..

Post by jimmy_stikx »

Of 14ga cable is needed to replace the wiring harness in our trucks? That's my next major thing on my M after I replace the water pump. It almost hit 200F on the 6 mile drive from work today.

Jimmy,

You mentioned 14ga wire. Are you going to use the same Prestolite wire that came on the truck or are you going to use the latest and greatest automotive wire? Reason I ask is I looked into this a bit a few months back. The newer automotive wire (Cross Linked Polyethylene) uses a thinner insulation jacket on the wire which means you can either upgrade to 12ga, which has the same OD as the Prestolite 14ga..........or stick with 14ga and have all the rubber inserts in the Douglas connectors be loose.

I know a few guys on here have made their own harnesses, so I'm sure they'll chime in.

regards,
bob

I was going to shoot for the Prestolite, and convert to Packark connectors were I can.
