Carter's surgery

Post by Carter »

Hello all,
I checked Carter into Johns Hopkins Hospital this morning at 5:15. He and his doctor opted to go for the big surgery of straightening his spine, inserting a metal rod and then there will be a second surgery in a few days to repair his crushed vertebrae. The surgery was over and he was in ICU by 7:30 this evening. He received 4 liters of blood and will spend the night in ICU. He convinced me I should go on to work and then home for the day so I haven't seen him. The operating room nurse called me 5 or 6 times to let me know everything was going fine, it is a great hospital. The doctor called me and explained they had accomplished everything that was needed and will be there early in the morning to check on him. I am anxious to get down there early in the morning.
Thanks,
Sandy

I hope Carter is doing well. I hope he is much more comfortable after this surgery than before.

Please be sure he takes plenty of time to fully heal and get his strength back. Please don't let him rush it because he feels better.

Slow and easy on the recovery.

Hope Carter gets well easy and painlessly.

Thanks for the update. Takes a great wife to go on this site for him and give us all an update. Hopefully his recovery goes as well as the surgery.

And now an update from his hospital room,Carter had scoliosis and degenertive disc disease at every level. No part of his back was good. The doctor inserted rods and screws to stablize his spine and decompress his discs.

Today he has been on his feet moving around but unsteady. It will take physical therepy.
Since he has internet access from his hospital room he asked me to sent this note.
