Info on Battery Hold-Down Bracket Needed

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

Last year at Aberdeen I picked up a hold-down bracket for my M37's battery box. I thouhgt there was only one design, but over the summer I started seeing another design of hold-down bracket. My thoughts are that the one in the first pic (that I got at Aberdeen) is the first design and the second pic is the later design. Assuming that's correct (and feel free to correct my butt if it's not), did the later design begin with the B1....or was it implemented before that? If it was before the B1 does anyone know when it started being used?

thanks,
bob

Bob I don't have one in front of me , but there is a list of changes. That may indicate if there was a change or if one of the brackets is not an M37 bracket. I'm not sure.

The only ones I've ever known of are like the one in the second picture and black heavy rubber coated.

The one in the first picture looks home made, to me.

Hi 52,

The hold-down in the first pic is shown in TM 9-840, which is why I believe it's the earlier bracket. Most of the pics in that TM are from the earliest trucks, as it's dated December 1950. So I believe the question is when did the later bracket replace the earlier one.

regards.

Here's a pic of the new Interstate batteries installed in the M37.
The Interstate batteries were a bit smaller in side by side length and width
than the originals so I cut down the size of the battery hold-down bracket and re-welded
it to size. The cable clamps were conveniently marked with + and - on them as well as red
shrink tape on the plus and black shrink tape on the minus. Makes for a no-brainer.
