Steering Knuckle Question

I am in the process of rebuilding the front steering knuckle, the Ord 9 page 228 shows an exploded view of the front axle, the steering arm is attached to the flange assy. by 4 cap screws the manual calls for 4 screw, hex-hd, S, cd or zn-pltd or phos-ctd, 1/2-13NC x 5/8 thd, 0.010 undercut, 1-1/4 lgh under hd.; and does not show any lock washers. The questions are: 1, what do they mean by 0.010 undercut. and 2, should there be washer, lock, ext-teeth, S cd or zn-pltd 1/2" installed.

No lock washers. The correct bolts have a hollow in the tops of the heads, not sure how they work, or why they work better than a lock washer, but thats what they used. The Flat Fender Power Wagons use the same type bolt on their steering arms.

What is the torque spec on these bolts?

PowerWagonTim, Thanks for the info on the bolts, it's good that I pulled the front end apart because I would not have found out that the bolts were the wrong ones holding on the steering arm, Someone installed regular bolts with lock washer and they were loose and the threads were flatened were the two parts moved against each other. I will try to take a picture of the assembly to show what happened.
