Hey Crew.
All advice welcome on this one. I need to replace or rebuild my carb on my 1952 M-37. I can install or uninstall the unit but am not comfortable trying to rebuild myself. The motor is original so I can only assume the carb is original as well.

Re: Carburetor Question
Greetings Tim,My first and foremost advice with this or any other new undertaking is do some research, really.Get yourself a carb rebuild manual that covers the ETW1 Carter carb on the M-37,read and look through it,familiarize yourself with the rebuild process,(you'll have to anyway to do the job),and see if it's something you feel you can handle. If not get a rebuilt unit. The last unit I did this year took me over seven hours to do,but I like to do a thorough rebuild with alot of time devoted to the masking and recoating process as well as disassembly, inspection, and reassembly/replacement of parts.Of coarse the CLEANING process requires a good bit of time and this phase is very important given the minute sizes of the various orifices. It is not nuclear physics however, and with time, alot of patience especially the first time out,an undisturbed workplace if this will take several days or more to complete, and at least $50 for the average going rate for the kit,you can do the job with mostly common tools and a good mechanical aptitude.Fred Potter at Addirondac Dodge Parts has a kit that includes a small but useful manual for around that $50.Hopefully you could find rebuild instructions on the net but I really don't know where.I buy the manuals I need.I don't like downloading info every time I need it.Hope this helps in the starting phase to at least point you in the direction of making up your mind.Best Regards,Chris.
Re: Carburetor Question
Make sure that the kit is not NOS.
I am not an expert on modern fuels, but modern gas will eat rubber parts form old NOS kits. SO, if you decide to tackle the rebuild make sure the kit parts are compatible with modern gasolines.

Re: Carburetor Question
Thank You Chris & RIXM37~!
All great and sound advice although I don't think I will tackle this project myself. I have a few other projects going on as well and could not devote the time needed to finish the project undisturbed. Excellent point about the new (junk) fuel today. Thank you both!!
