Fuel tank?

Post by refit1701 »

Where can I get a fuel tank? Mine doesn't have one. Somebody rigged up a 5 gal can in the bed (this was used on a farm I guess) and discarded the tank. The straps are still there.

I have heard that Chevy S10 tanks are a good fit, but I have never tried to fit one... M101 3/4 ton cargo trailers converted for use with generators (as with the area lighting set) have fuel tanks mounted under the bed that are very similar to the ones fitted to the M37 and can be used (look for somebody who purchased one of the trailers in order to get the generators and/or the trailer and see if you can get them to sell or give you the tank).

Aslo try the usual suspects such as ABLinn, Vermont Commercial Salvage, Midwest Military, ACE Surplus, Adirondack Dodge, White Owl Parts, and Memphis Equipment... Some have contact info on my website, some are easier to "Google".

Good luck.

refit,

I'm in NE Oregon, Zip is 97882

Not sure what shipping would be down your way, but I'm going to use a different tank for my sled. Mine's been to radiator shop, cleaned and checked for and proven leak free.

I have had to replace the gas tank in my 1996 GMC Sonoma (aka S-10) it was long narrow and much thicker than the M37 tank...I really do not see how it would fit.

Here is a picture someone had posted.

I have some used stock tanks but may need to be cleaned or repaired for sale. One is on hold for pickup/shipping but I have several others. Shipping will be expensive. Autodoc51@aol.com

Yeah, the shipping is the killer. I'm going to check at the local HMV swap meet the first of November and see what I can scare up.

Hmm, I think that the person who told me this (Kenny Grantham, down near Charlotte, NC) used one from an early model S10, so now I wonder when the change over in tank design was... I really have not paid attention to the small Chevy truck line. Thanks for pointing out that the newer tanks are different.

The tank out of a Ford E-e50 van works good, you just have to extend the straps. I sure would not pay an arm and a leg for an old one when you can get a nice clean newer tank for less money. Tom

I think they used a s-10 blazer tank...between the framerails.

I often though the tank out of a Dodge Ramcharger might fit...the older ones are steel and 24-gallon, the later ones are plastic and 37-gallons...and the latest ones had the fuel pump in the tank IIRC. 32" framerails???

Or any van, blazer, bronco???

I have a 35 gallon Ramcharger tank that i am going to try to get to work. It has a "hump" on the front top, but I think it will go. Have to pull off my existing tank and trial fit.
