USA NO. & NSN ?

Another new guy with a new guy question. The registry asks for the NSN is this what my data plate is refering to as the ORD. STOCK NO. (G2741-8358323) And the registry is also asking for the USA number, is this the same as my hood number? (US ARMY 2409583)

USA # = Hood Number.
There should be a tag on your fire wall, just under the hood, passenger side, oval & made of brass.

Thank you for responding to my question. I have found the ovel tag on the upper p/s firewall (49202-2146) I had assumed this was my cowl number.It appears to be made of aluminun.

Yep! That's the cowl tag. I'm not sure what its significance is, though, as not all M37s had them. I've only actually seen one, and it was on a fire department's brush truck. Why some trucks had cowl tags and some didn't is a mystery to me.

My Cowl Tag was missing, just an impression w/ two phillips screws. Ben Did we answer your ? OK?

Still not sure, is the NSN (national stock number???) the same as the ORD. STOCK NO. on my data plate? Thanks for your help.

ORD Stock Number was used through the 60's. The Federal Stock Number (FSN) system was introduced in the mid 50's and eventually it assimilated the ORD stock numbers. In the 70's the government wanted to ad country of origin information to the FSN so in areas like NATO where several countries produced M series parts to the original MIL SPEC and these parts were used by all the NATO members they could ID which country made that particular part yet keep the orginal stock number. So the FSN which usually looked like XXXX-XXX-XXXX where the first cluster was the Federal stock class, the second cluster was the type use and the third cluster was the breakout number was modified to include an extra two digits that ID the country of origin for the part and the FSN was renamed NSN or National Stock Number or as some like to refer to it Nato Stock Number. This format became XXXX-XX-XXX-XXXX and as I said above the two digit cluster ID's the country. 00 and 01 are US. An original M37 ID plate would most likely have been produced long before NSN's existed.

Note that although the ad calls each manual a M37 manual a third of the manuals on the CD are WWII WC manuals. They use their own internal software to run the CD which is a real pain and I hope you get a better deal with the CD. I bought the instant web site download and did not get the ORD 9 SNL G-741.

I got my cd today, I had to download Adobe reader 9, other than that it works fine. It contains a lot of M37 stuff along with some WWII TM's, not bad for half the cost of a reprint TM.
