M24A3 Pedalstal mount for the M37...

Post by Oddjob »

M24A3 Pedalstal mount for the M37 anyone have any good pictures of one or technical material available in regards to it... I'd really like to get some good measurements and pictures to reproduce one... As I understand they are not very common and need something to help mount my 1917A1 to my new Quad Pod... :D

There is a TM that covers most/all? of the gun mounts. I don't have the number handy but I can get it if you don't have it. But there's CD copies of the TM on E-greed frequently. There was a paper copy too recently but don't recall the selling price.

Found the TM I think your making reference too... TM 9-2016
It has a small blurb in there about the M24A2 for the Earlier WC vehicles and a bit on the M24A3 for the M37 I need to see about finding where I can get the blueprints from... It's a possibility that somewhere the blueprints are available...

I think that's the TM that I remember. Have you checked the Steel Soldiers site? I seem to remember that someone there was looking for information on the A3 mount and I think they said that info on the A1 and A2 mounts was readily available but they couldn't find much on the A3 mount.

Yeah I'm a member over there under the same name I found a thread over there in reference to it but I believe it cross references me over to the powerwagon site... So I haven't followed up on that lead yet...

I was just looking at E-greed and saw this http://cgi.ebay.com/WW2-US-MACHINE-GUN- ... 0399124658. It's a PDF copy of TM 9-224 'Machine Gun Mounts for Trucks', dated 1943. My experience with PDF copies of manuals on E-greed is that if someone is selling it then there's about a 95% chance that it's already in the public domain and is freely available on the net somewhere. Most of the PDF sellers seem to be lazy, greedy opportunists that take stuff that's already available for free and just put it on a CD and try to sell them for MORE than what the original manuals sell for! OK so this guy's starting price is only $5 so maybe he's not TOO greedy.

Cool anything is better than nothing... I might be able to run across a number that I can pull up a drawing sheet from on any of that info...

Yep that's real close It's got most of the numbers for the parts there... So I might be able to use those to request the blueprints... :)

Oddjob,

I just bought a copy of David Doyle's book 'Standard Catalog of Military Vehicles'. I got mine 2nd hand off of E-greed for $11 including shipping! You should get a copy of it and read it. It has a pretty good description and picture of the M24A3 mount for the M-37 and it mentions a couple of interesting things. One, the M-37 bed was wider than previous trucks so the mount is wider than the earlier ones. Two, This mount is installed backwards compared to the previous mounts and the "post" is on the bed side of the mount instead of facing the front of the truck. Also the angle plate the forms the base of the mount is substantially heavier and stronger than on previous models and the braces that go on the ends of upper cross brace are also substantially heavier and stronger as well. It think with DD's picture and the drawings from the older mount you could make a very good copy of the A3 mount.

I'll be checking it out... and may have to pick up a copy myself... I've been a little MIA as of late but I'll be back in the swing of things and hanging out at my favorite G741 spot here soon again...
