Dodge Brakes

Post by SydneyM37 »

I am putting my truck back together after a long resto, and have taken heaps of pics, but i guessed i forgot to takes shots of my brake system.

I have a hydrovac booster, but i don't recall it having a vacuum line fitted, and looking at it where one would go, it has a vented plate over it.

As anyone seen this set up,as everything i see on the net has a connection to the manifold of some sorts, but mine don't.

A Hydrovac booster would have to have a vacuum connection to the intake manifold. Are you sure you don't have a hydroboost setup which would run off of a power steering pump? maybe a pic would be in order.

The vacuum port is on the bottom of the unit, kind of hard to see in your pics due to lighting. Maybe this will help http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bendi ... rawing.jpg.
Its item #6 labeled vacuum to intake
There's also a pretty complex explanation of how it works http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bendix/erickson/. The vented plate you spoke of is for air to enter the unit at atmospheric pressure. there should be some kind of filter material inside it to keep trash from getting sucked into the vacuum chamber. Hope this helps. I don't actually have any real experience with these units, I just did some looking as I was/am considering going that route on my truck, But thats still a ways off.

I think you saw my VH-80 booster system under the side of my truck, a different booster to yours but the same thing applies. My vacuum chamber vent is ported and a hose runs up inside the cab to stop water and dirt ingress, do you want some pics or will it be easier for you to just fly over and check it out??? 8)

Best Regards - MM :-)
