60's Air Force Question
I'm working on a 1963 Air Force vehicle. I want to put a rotating beacon on my vehicle and I'm wondering what color dome would be on a flight line/rescue vehicle red or blue?
Wes
Red
There's a group of guys up your way that restore military jeeps and also work at the KI Sawyer museum on the F106. They're over south of Gwinn.

The flightline crash trucks were red with white markings. As a rule, they did not have rotating beacons. Some had a roof-mounted spotlight in front of the ladder housing.
Those AF vehicles that did have beacons (fire trucks, Air Police) had blue domes. Tactical Air Command convoy leader and trailer vehicles used amber domes.

"PER ARDUA AD ITER"
Security Police used a lot of blue. I only recall red lights on the fire trucks.

Its a Thiokol 601
It's a 1963 Thiokol 601, a military version of the Trackmaster. They were built for the Air Force. They were used in the artic radar instalations and also for winter downed pilot search and rescue. The local SAC Air Force bace here in the UP of Michigan had two.
Wes
Thats it !
That's it, mine is number 63-C-1363. Except for paint and some other minor changes, it is very original and complete. I hope to paint it the Air force blue and add proper markings.
Wes
No problem lifer we all get that occasionally. Long as you remember the important stuff.

Hey Tim:
Bear Peak...Boy I tried to get in at Sunday River. There set up is NICE!!!
But they have a almost 0 turn over rate. They told me that ALL the guys that left are on a list to get rehired. So my chance of getting hired was nil or less then nil.

All this for one hand, three joy sticks and lots of buttons...You drive with the other.
Sorry for the hijack...
