Oregon Surplus M37

Post by neverfinished »

I thought this might be of interest. Last month I was looking at "m37" search results on ebay and saw that the State of Oregon had a 53 for sale and at that point there were only a couple bids at about $7-800. I work less than a mile from their warehouse so it caught my interest even though I don't have any funds to buy another right now. Watched it for the rest of the week-I think there were 14 or 16 different bidders and when it closed on Aug. 20 it was at 3400.00 with the note "RESERVE NOT MET". Apparently someone at the state knows something about what they have since I hardly ever see them put any reserve on their late model stuff. I did go look at it and it was in very good shape-all original except for key switch, light switch and headlights. Winch was missing and it had some rust through in cowl, bed was very good, tailgate fair, good canvas top. I wonder if it will be relisted in the future. I did get the data plate/serial # info and added it to the registry-its currently shown as the latest entry.

"Reserve not met" at $3400.00?? Let's see, now...cowl rusted through, incorrect lights, key ignition, civilian light switch? I take it the rest of the truck is solid gold with platinum trim? You say that maybe "someone at the state knows something about what they have," but I seriously doubt that he/she does considering the defects you have listed. Perhaps the state is hoping to attract an "investor" rather than a collector or hobbyist. Given its condition (as you have described it), I'd say that $800 - $1000 would be tops, but only if it was in running condition. :?

I am noticing more reserves on GSA sales, and it does not make too much sence.

SAME NIGHT MINE CLOSED AN "M" IN MO. COLSED AT OVER $8400. GO FIGURE? I HAVE ALSO BOUGHT "STUFF" FROM GSA WITH A RESERVE THAT WAS NOT MET, BUT I GOT THE "STUFF" ANYHOW. GO FIGURE

About 10 years ago I bid on a Ford Crown Vic that was local from INS.
Without posting a "reserve not met" they did regect the bid saying that it was not enough.
The next week, I got a phone call asking me if I still wanted the car at my bid. I guess they changed their mind.

A car from INS, I bought it for my Mexican workers, go figure. LOL

I didn't mean to imply that I agreed with the high reserve-it's clearly out of line, but only that they at least recognize that it's not just another old beater that they need to get rid of like most of the worn out rigs they dispose of. That being said, I think it would be a good truck for starting a project on-seems very solid and straight other than the cowl, the missing winch being the biggest negative. The few incorrect electrical parts would seem to be easy to get. If one could buy it for 1500-2000, I don't think they'd be in too deep and I certainly seen much, much worse rust repair photos by the guys on this site.

M37 prices

Post by SydneyM37 »

Makes me chuckle when you guys talk M37 prices, i'm a fool or a sucker, or dead keen, but i paid $7,300 for mine, and $9,400 to ship it, and god only knows how much money i have spent at Midwest Mil, powerwagons, paint, timber and the list goes on, but each time i lift the roller door, i keep looking at the best Military Truck in my opinion.
