Front clip removed and moving on to the cab next. Found some intersting things along the way. The engine was overhauled by the USA in 9/69 along with the generator. Couple more questionable items and a photo of the heat shield for the fuel pump if anyone needs measurement to fab one let me know.

What the hell is this? Heater ducting?

What's the chances that this is the original engine and how does one find out?

Here's the fuel pump w/heatshield. What is the lever for to the left of the pump and why is there a shutoff valve down stream from the pump that goes to the brake master cylinder? Part of the fording system?

What's the hole at the bottom corner of the dash above the fire extinguisher bracket?

Not real clear but you get the idea. The oil is clean as if it was changed a few miles ago. This thing hasn't ran in over 5 years and had been sitting outside on a ranch. I didn't bother trying to start it because it sat so long I figured a rebuild was in order.

I'll post more pictures as the teardown progresses.

Hi M-11
The big duct coming out the side of the cab is the duct for a fender mounted heater.
The round hole above the fire extinguisher bracket is for an accessorie plug. Not sure what plugged in there but thats what it was. You must have an early truck, as they discontinued that feature fairly early.
The valve below the fuel pump is a fuel shutoff valve. I think if you follow the line more carefully it will go past the master cyl and continue to the fuel tank!
The lever to the left on the fuel pump is a priming lever.
I would have tried to start it. If you are willing to do a rebuild, what can it hurt? Worst case you have to rebuild it anyway, best case it runs like a top and you save yourself a few grand!

Wow someone really hacked up the dash on you.

Tear down goes quick...after that is what takes time.

I would leave that gaping hole in the dash and tell folks a grenade went off inside the glove box. Maybe paint the edges flat black to simulate burn!

Yep, that one area on the dash is the worst spot on the truck. The battery box has a small hole and the floor pan below is rusted but solid and the fenders are solid in the usual rust through areas.

The odd thing about that jagged hole, there is a 4" knockout there for the defroster plenum. Go figure!

I wonder if someone didn't try to mount a speaker there and tried taking the knockout out and messed it up or hacked away at it to make a big enough hole?

Welcome aboard and enjoy "the begining of the journey". Lots of help and friends here. You will find that there are alot of "modifications" to these trucks during there lifetime. Mine had some "humdingers" boy like the torched out hole in the seatbox for the 8-track player

I've been a member for awhile but most of my time has been spent on the 151 forum. I would stop by here everyday to see what I could learn but haven't posted much because I hadn't started the restoration on the truck. Of course now I will be posting and providing pictures. By the time I finish this project you guys will be tired of me.
