Funny you mentioned that. I was at the local NAPA store the other day buying filters for upcoming oil changes to our bread and butter vehicles. I figured while I was there I'd pick up another filter for the M, so I included the 1100 on the short list of items I wanted to buy. When the guy came out from the back room with everything I wanted, I commented on how I was surprised they had any this trip. The guy said "yeah this is the first one of these I've ever sold, what's it go to?" When I told him he got a look of interest on his face. The clerk couldn't have been more than about 24 years old and must've been new to the job because I pretty much know the regulars who work there and hadn't seen this kid before.

The all time best NAPA experience was ordering a master cylinder kit. At the time it was part #1. The clerk argued that it wasn't a valid number until I convinced him to look it up. He did and the said "Holy Crap....we have one in stock"

The parts clerk knows better than to ask me what I am working on,
THey know that they wouldn't understand even if I told them and that it will not be in the books. Tom

Driving to the parts store

Post by Paul in Kempner, TX »

There's always a lot of whining about restrictions on driving vehicles registered as antiques or "Former Military Vehicles" but the bottom line is that you can't drive to work or run to the store to buy your wife some tampons. Everything else is okay.

Included under driving for routine maintenance is taking the "M" to the parts store.

Almost always there will be a pimply faced kid who checks the computer (he doesn't even know where the hard copy parts books are kept) and tells me there is no such vehicle. I tell him to look out front and tell him that I'm going to drive that non-existent vehicle in through the window and park it on his silly computer. It is amazing how his learning curve improves.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AT THE NAPA STORE! I have always been able to get the #1100 filter, either by number or by asking for the "Military Junior" filter.

NAPA parts

Post by kc8sfq »

I was in northern lower Mich at the fall trail ride. I needed a master cylinder kit. I walked up to the NAPA counter and told the clerk that I needed "one each NAPA part number one". He asked me if that was a light bulb. After I made him look it up he was surprised that I knew the number. I then asked if he could find a master cylinder kit for a 1953 Army truck. He said that they couldn't get parts for Army trucks. I then explained to him that he'd just ordered one. I had it in my hand at 0800 the next morning, and was back on the trails by noon (better yet, I had brakes)
