Master cylinder replacement
It's time to replace the master cylinder, and I was wondering if there were any problems with using the Bendix1584 while keeping the drums?

Re: Master cylinder replacement
The 1584 has no residual check valve because its designed for use with disc brakes. It will work just fine in a drum system, however you will have to stay right on top of shoe to drum clearance adjustments. You can install a remote mount residual check valve in the system that will bring you back to a stock set up also.Helnbakwarzalot wrote:It's time to replace the master cylinder, and I was wondering if there were any problems with using the Bendix1584 while keeping the drums?

This is correct, the spring pull back will force almost all the fluid back to the reservoir without a valve & will necessitate pumping the pedal before a brake application to refill the lines. A residual pressure check valve will hold enough back to keep the lines full eliminating the need for the extra pump. A snug shoe adjustment will also eliminate the pump, but will require frequent adjustment to keep them snugged up.
The remote valve would need to be removed if disc are installed. It will have the opposite affect in a disc system, it would hold back too much pressure & would cause the pads to drag against the rotors & never fully release.
