Stop Lights

I want to convert military 24V stop lights to 12V's. What gauge wire will I need and what type of light bulbs do I need to get. Will I have to do anything inside the housing to accept those lights? I need for those stop light to also act as turn signals for me.

I have a trailer that I haul my Jeep in to shows and pull it with my Pick-up which is a 12V system. I have it painted OD, with stars and I even have the TP painted over the wheel - I must say it does look offical.

The reason I am posting this here because the lights I am useing are the same ones that are on my M37.

The wire in a standard trailer wiring kit is all you'll need. The kit will have instructions as to which wire goes where. On the bulbs, I can't tell you the number you'll need, but they're the usual tail lamp/turn signal bulbs. They're just the 12-volt ones. If you want to convert the voltage system on a vehicle that's already wired, the only thing you need to change is the bulbs.

The reason I ask is that on the bottom of the bulb, will there be 2 or 1 contact point?

So all I have to do is buy light bulbs that have a a stop light and turn signal element and place them in the socket?

Hi Carmen,
If your bulb socket has two contacts in the bottom you'll need the 1157 bulb. It contains a tail light and brake/signal element. If you have single contact sockets, the brake is an 1156 and the tail is a smaller one, a 76 I believe, but I'll have to check that one when I get home.

I just saw your last post-yes, if the socket already has two contacts, swapping the bulb to the 1157 should be all you need to do. The wiring doesn't need to be modified-it will carry 12v as readily as 24v.
