M43 Bumper Markings in Country Photos

Post by mccluske »

I am looking for any photos of bumper markings on M43 Army or Marine Corps ambulances used in Vietnam. I have used the info in the 1964 marking spec but I would like to make sure that was what was being done in country. All of the photos I have seen so far have been side shots.

Dan, I checked both my photo album and my units web site and no pics. As a matter of fact I personally never saw a M43 in RVN. All our wounded and KIAs were moved by Hueys. Either right to the heli pad next to the division hospital or straight to Saigon if it was a head wound. Maybe the ARVNs used them?

Hold the presses!!! I found what you need. I must have missed this file on my first cruise through. I was Mech Infantry and we only used Dust offs but the Bn. must have had M43 by the following link. The photo album you want to see is David Reid 69-70

I have seen pics of the M43 in RVN, I know it was army, I dont think I have seen a Marine Corps one.

Hello, y'all!

Here is a link I found doing research when I thought I had a M43, before discovering it was actually a XM152.

9th ID in Vietnam had a converted M43 that was set up as a Radio-telephone station, so GI's could call home from outside the big bases. I was considering doing my vehicle upike this one.

Thanks for the photos links. Here is mine so far marked per the 64' marking spec and set for the movie shoot as a truck with the 24th Evac Hospital but I plan on remarking it to the 71st Evac. Here is a photo of the front bumper Image Still not sure about the format of the 24th Evac if that is correct, and here is a photo of the rear bumpers Image I hope these photo inserts work if not they are in my page in the M37 Gallery, also Wayne64 is the unit making on the truck in yoour photo the 25th Army Group 25th Evac hospital? I made a mistake and put the markings on the wrong sides on the rear and will fix that when I change it over to 71st Evac.

Thanks

All I can add is that my Division was the 25th (tropic lighting) and I'm only guessing but that was a division level M43. Now I'll go back and try to find photos to see if our M113s had a BN. marking.
