Engine Serial Number
Can anyone shed some light on my recently uncovered engine number? It reads "US.24-7596". I believe it's military due to the two bolt oil fill pipe flange but the number prefix is not like any other I've seen described. Thanks in advance!
I can't offer any info. on the serial # other than to say I have never seen a M37 engine marked the way you say yours is. All M37 engine serial #s I have seen have started with T245 or T245A, I wonder if you have a GI replacement one. Judging from the lack of responses you must have a very unique engine. Sorry I am unable to offer more insite into what you have. Carter

Unique Engine Number
Thanks Carter...The number is clear. I wish I'd made a mistake! I have found nothing else on the engine that does not look to be normal issue. If anyone else has any ideas they would be warmly received! Thanks again! Bob
Perhaps it's a civilian 230 swap, with the military add-ons. I suspect that's what I'm dealing with even on mine though I've gone back to the ETW1 carb. Still has the civilian distributor with the small-notch cap, and the block and oil pan appear to be original red paint.

Re: Engine Serial Number
I've had US-24-nnnn engines. They are contract spares for the government. (You can't replace an engine unless you have stock to replace it with.) The last one came as a complete power assembly. Radiator cap to transmission yoke.
They are Milspec 23" 230CID engines and came with ETW carb, waterproof distributor, generator and starter. Sealed bellhousing and hand crank front nut.
