support passenger´s seat

Post by M37DODGE »

Hello,

My M37 has non original passenger seat, and I think I have found one which may match but a couple of details could help me: at first the measures of the seat, not the back wich is still there, only the seat, and a photograph of the support, where the seat stands would also be very heplfull for me.

Thank you very much indeed

Seat stand?

Post by Nickathome »

Is your truck missing the metal that surrounds the battery compartment?

The wooden seat bottom simply sits on top of that with the two pins on either side going into holes in the seat bottom to hold it from moving around. There is then a latch on the front that holds the seat down. The seat bottom is merely a piece of waffleboard. I made my replacement from a piece of 3/4" plywood.

Hi Nickathome,

In my m37 the battries are under driver´s seat, not under passenger´s seat. In both cases there are like a metal box to support the seat, but in the case of the passenger´s seat, the box is not of the same size of the seat, so that´s the reason.

Thank you very much

It would seem that your M37 has been modified. You may not be able to use a stock seat without restoring the original seat box.

well, that´s what I want to know, how it was in the origins, thats the reason I am looking for a photograph of the support, with the seat removed.

Thanks all

Seat...

Post by Nickathome »

Yes, it seems you have had some extensive modifications to your seats. I never heard of the batteries being under the driver's seat in an M37. Is there even enough room(assuming its still a 24 volt system).

Hi everybody again.

My m37 is 24 volts, and I think that the passengers seat support has been modified, well thats what I assume after seeing the photographs (thank you very much indeed 52m37Hal, 1 image is better than thousands words) But have all M37 the same passengers support? I will try to provide a photograph althought it is quite difficult to me.

Said thanks for all.

I find my VIN number, not in the truck (as I said before it was delete) but somebody wrote it before the scrapyard delete it so I can say tha I have a May 1953 M37 Dodge.

Thanks for all

this is a photograph of another "spanish" M37 and this is exactly my passengers seat support. So It isn´t original? It seems to be.

Thank you

That is definately not the original seat base. It looks like a well designed modification, perhaps by the Spanish government. My guess is that it was done to allow room for specialized equipment between the seats. Have you tried to see if the driver's seat will fit on the passenger side? If so, all you need to do is find another driver's seat.

You're probably right. I think I would keep it the way it is instead of trying to "restore" it to original specifications. The design seems to be very good, and it is an interesting piece of M37 history. :)

yeah not but idea, but the thing is that it has the original passengers back, so only the seat is required, and I prefer have three people in cab rather than 2.

Thanks for all Lifer I appreciiate your knowledge.

You could make a seat that could span the gap in the seat support, however the middle person is going to have to either straddle the hump with their legs or sit side saddle. Don't think that would be too comfortable if you ask me.
