Tires and Rims

Post by JimC »

Got the replacement door and runningboard in place.
Tires on passenger side are holding air. Tires on driver's side are shredded, as is left rear lock ring.
Stuck a 4 foot cheater pipe on the lug wrench to get the lug nuts started off the right front - Kroil and a cheater are wonderful things. Moving right front tire to the left rear. Ordered two new 1050×16 directional tires for the front. Two more for the rear next month. While they are enroute, I'll refurb the rims for them. That'll let me roll the truck under a shed so I can work in the shade and in the dry (it was 96° this afternoon). There was a wasp's nest in the driver's side tailgate post that stopped me cold from getting a start on the left rear lugnuts. Project for ttomorrow. Winch bumperette install this weekend. Outer windshield frame replacement for next week. Have started taking measurements for the new hardtop.

Have I mentioned that this is a slow go?

Nice update Jim! Yep, the work goes at your (our) own pace. Life interrupts at times but it's been posted here many times-do SOMETHING on your rig every day because every little bit helps!

Sunday
got the left rear tire off.
Five gallon bucket I was sitting on collapsed about ten minutes ago, and I fell backwards onto my left elbow. Almost broke it. Not particularly painful, but I can feel it and expect it will talk to me some tomorrow. Last thing I need is a broke right shoulder and left elbow...
Only 91° outside, but I am sitting in the car cooling off anyway and working up the energy to move the right front tire to the left rear.
I'll have to think a bit about mounting the winch bumperettes today.

Left rear tire was too heavy for me to drag it out of the way. Tired and overheating. Time to call it a day, maybe.
Sitting in the car with the a/c on max and the seat cooler turned on while making up my mind.

Ordered two more tires for the rear of the 708 August 9. Seller created FedEx label August 11, and tires are supposed to arrive tomorrow - but Chattanooga had major flooding about same time. FedEx still hasn't received the tires. Don't know if the flooding had anything to do with the delay. I'll give it 3 or 4 more days before I start complaining.

Went out to the hangar today, looking for my NOS outer windshield frame. Airport manager said if gate key wasn't on top of gate post, just drive around it. It wasn't; I did - and drug the passenger side rocker box off my freshly painted Ford Fusion. Arrgghh...

Hanger was blistering hot inside, I'd guess maybe 110-115°. I couldn't last long in that. I found a bunch of stuff, but not the windshield frame - maybe it's in my garage. Anyway, today was a bit of a lost cause all round.

Sorry about your Fusion. Yeah I have that same problem at times: I know I have the part somewhere, but exactly where?

Fusion will be OK. Paint and external shape of rocker are OK. Some internal attachments are ripped off.
Body Shop quoted $748 for repair. I think I can do it myself for about $30.

I did find four 37 tailgates (one was NOS), three doors, rear axles for the 708, a passenger running board, a complete soft top frame and part of another, plus some misc. stuff.

Today, I'll look through my garage for the windshield frame.
