Got an inflated yard tire on the left rear today (came off the right front).
Temperature ranging from 99° to 103°.
Only 97° now.
Need to remove 7 more bolts to get the old bumper off before setting the winch bumperettes. I'm thinking seriously of telling the truck to do something unprintable to itself and going home for the day.

I want to install 6" high wood sideboards on the dump bed (2×8-6' ripped to 6" wide).
Looking at the truck, it isn't immediately obvious how they attach.
Anyone know?
If you think wood is pricey, look at 5140 tube.
Wood will look dirt cheap. (I bought 40' for a mere $400 yesterday. For antenna towers)
It's hot (112°F) midday on so I am not doing much outside. What I have noticed now as I've aged is my skin is like tissue paper. Bump anything and bleed, bruise or both.
Went to a local metal supply business today looking for materials to duplicate my missing tailgate for the 708.
I need 6 feet of 1.125" diameter bar. They required that I buy 20 feet and pay a cutting fee.
To get 6 feet x 18 inches of 10ga sheet, they required purchase of a 4 foot x 10 foot piece, plus cutting fee. I think they were hoping I would spend thousands with them - they kept repeating how expensive this was going to be. I politely declined.
Got two rims dismounted and ready for media blasting today. New front tires should arrive Wednesday. Once I get them mounted after paint cures, I'll be able to move the truck under cover.
Time for a different supplier!
Most of the suppliers here at least have 10' precuts in bar stock. And sell drops of bar at $1.79 /lb. They had plenty of 1.25 1018 in 6' lengths in the drops. I bought one each of 1.25 and 1.50 7' long.
To get that 72x18 you would have to buy a 48x96 and pay for any cut after the first one. You get to keep the drops.
I like tall, narrow directional tires. Two STA 1050-16 tires arrived for the front of the 708 today.
9 inches tread width, a bit over 38" diameter, and directional tread depth is 19/32". A bit more shallow than I would wish, but I knew that on the front end. So far, so good. I look forward to seeing them on the truck - at which point it will be mobile around the shop and yard
You're lucky. I live in the Memphis Metro area. Not much available here. I tried a local metal supply company day before yesterday.
They were telling me the raw materials for my 708 tailgate were going to cost several thousand. And laughing while they said it. I realize this isn't the old days, but I think a few hundred will do it.

Do cosmetic repairs Tuesday and Wednesday
Prime Thursday
Paint with 24087 Friday
Let it cure over the weekend
And mount the two front tires on the following Monday or Tuesday
At that point, the truck will be towable, and I can get it under cover so heat and rain won't be such a problem.
Next step, mounting the winch bumpers (may do that while the rims are curing)
Then refurbing the hood.

Well, I blew my intended schedule this week, but yesterday I did get two sideboards of Apitong hardwood that is reputedly 13% harder an 26% stronger than oak (usually used for flatbed trailer floors). It is an attractive reddish brown color and a full 2-1/8" thick.
