Thought I'd remove the damaged passenger side running board on the 708 today.
Only 91° outside, so I thought I was good to go.
I lasted 15 minutes. Got the four nuts Kroiled and two broken loose before I realized I was overheating. So, I quit and went home. Disgusted with myself, but I guess it beats heatstroke....

Re: Refurb
108 here. I was done with work by 0830. Just rode my bike to the coffee shop. No one ever accused me of being smart.
Your smart to stop.
Your smart to stop.

Re: Refurb
Well, I did go back about 5pm when the temperature had dropped to 89°.
Got 3 of the 4 bolts out. I'll go back tomorrow morning before it gets hot and drill the head off the 4th bolt.
I ain't too smart....

Re: Refurb
Well, if it ain't too hot, it's raining on my head.
Haven't replaced the crushed door yet.
Maybe today after work.
Lost the keys to my hanger when I totaled my car last month.
Still looking for them (I'm an eternal optimist). If I haven't found them by this weekend, I'll cut the lock off. I think I have a 37 windshield frame there (outer and inners), plus a soft top frame, a Budd rim or two, and quite a bit of other miscellaneous stuff- need to do an inventory.
Plugging away on the 708, but it is sloowww.
Picked up a couple of H6024 headlights this morning and found a place to replace my rear driveshaft tube. I'll pull the driveshaft this weekend.

Re: Refurb
Got all the passenger door hinge bolts loose and/or out.
Left one bolt in each hinge loose to hold the reinforcing plates in place.
It rained on my head while I was doing it
The top plate can be accessed from the front, so it is easy to keep it in place.
The bottom plate is not so easily accessed, and it has been fifty years since I've swapped out a door. What's the easiest way to keep the bottom plate in place while the door is off?

Re: Refurb
Thread a stud in one of the holes, slide the hinge off then add a nut to the stud so it'll stay in place.

Re: Refurb
Removed the damaged passenger door this afternoon and installed two temporary studs in each backing plate to hold them in place.
Wasn't able to lift replacement door into place due to broken shoulder. I'll get someone to help me with that tomorrow morning. Swapping out headlights tomorrow afternoon. Ordering two new directional tires Wednesday. Need to refurbish a couple of rims before they arrive. Gotta straighten the front running board bracket before I bolt the replacement running board in. Probably install the winch bumper Friday. I may be getting there, but it is hard to see the progress.

Re: Refurb
Bum shoulder and you're still chugging along-go easy my friend-no need to relapse into a worse injury. Your rig's not going anywhere so be careful!

Yeah, but at 83, I myself might.
I'm ambidextrous, so a broken right shoulder isn't all that much of a handicap.
Shoulder is getting better; I'm not going to do anything to damage it further.
Got the door and running board hung.
Running late on the bumper - I'm going to install it tomorrow. Painted the transfer levers draft pad retainer today. Two gallons of Gilllespie 24087 for miscellaneous parts arrived this morning. Large head carriage bolts for running board were supposed to arrive yesterday. Looks like it will be next Wednesday instead.
Took a break and went to the movies with my grandson this afternoon.
On the plus side, I've lost 15 pounds of unnecessary me since I started messing with this thing.

Re: Refurb
Slow, slow go today. Didn't get the bumpers hung, didn't complete the tire swap. Bucket I was sitting in split and dumped me on my fanny. Came close to breaking my left elbow - I felt it hyperextending. Gonna be OK though - has quit hurting and still bends OK.
It was only 91°, but by the time I got the rear tire off I had run out of water, and was so exhausted I couldn't pick the tire up to get it out of the way. So, I went home. Will tackle it again tomorrow after work.

Well, I don't feel all that old.

Re: Refurb
Age has slowed me down some, but I'm still doing reasonably well.
About twice as fast as the average 18 year old..Dunno how long it will last.
