How to tell if engine is original

Post by ez8 »

I'm looking to see if my engine is original to my truck. What's the best way to tell?

This is part of an investigation to see if I should rebuild the engine I have or try to find another one that is in good condition and swap them out.

The most accurate way would be to order your truck's build card from FCA Chrysler:
http://www.fcanorthamerica.com/company/ ... cords.aspx

That will have the original engine serial number included. There is no other way to tell as far as I know.

Few went thru rebuild programs to include the original engine, as they drew from supply most of the major components such as axles, transmissions, engines, eTc rebuilt previously by Support Units such as Toelle, RR, and other depots.

Keep in mind, in the later periods of those truck's use the engine was determined to be replaced @ 15K miles.

If your engine is a T-245, it would be proper for any G-741 truck.

Thanks, fellows. I'll have to see if I can get the card from FCA.
