How to get spark plugs wires black again
I have a 62 M37B1 that I am restoring. The black plastic covering on the plug wires has come off. The wires work just fine and I really don't want to spend the money for new ones just so they are black. I tried painting them, but the mesh just appears to absorb the paint and the copper color comes right back. Any ideals or suggestions of how I can get to be black and look good?

I know this is old but.... not sure what the issue is. If it's some wire loom that is discoloring, I'd look for heat shrinkable wire loom as a replacement. TechFlex, Tuff-Wrap, Kwik Wire are some. Plenty of others. Might also be called braided sleeving.

In the days of the G741's in service, most I saw had long lost the rubber covering on the plug wires.
Matter of fact, I've seen NOS ones without the rubber.

Another thought....
When I first got my M37 the original generator cable had its rubber covering flaking off. I removed all of what was remaining and checked the condition of the inner wires (all still soft and pliable).
Polished the now exposed shielding up a bit and will use that for shows.

Expands Slightly For Easy Installation
I believe the coupling nut on each end of the plug wire is 3/4" across the flats and also 3/4" OD on the round rear end of the coupling nut, so the 3/4" Techflex might work for you (won't be as tight to the braid as the original but if you cut it a little long it would probably fit just right over the rear of the coupling nuts on both ends of the plug wire
