Rear fender question
I have recently acquired a 1953 M37 with a Diesel engine. The rear fender looks atypical from the images I see online. Has this been modified or is this some version that was actually used then? Thank you for any help you can give me, I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it squared like this or modify it to appear more round.
Thank you!
Re: Rear fender question
Mac,
Somebody's put a trailer bed on in place of your correct bed-probably an M105 because it looks bigger than an M101. A lot of bobbed deuce-and-a-halfs have this modification.

Re: Rear fender question
Ok, thank you for the information. I wonder why they did it? Interesting.
Re: Rear fender question
you should measure your wheelbase too; looks longer than stock. Not saying its a bad thing, just that you'll want to understand what you have when getting parts.

Re: Rear fender question
Ok, thank you for the tip, I will do so. The drivetrain is not stock either, so I know at some point someone was planning on doing something with this:)
Re: Rear fender question
I measured my M 101 trailer and my M37. Trailer is too long , maybe it's a maint truck? Longer wheelbase. But it looks good, Paul
Re: Rear fender question
Interesting. Do you think this was done while it was in service or after? If it was modified to be a maintenance truck?
And thank you for the response.

Re: Rear fender question
The Army never modified them in that way.
The bed was likely fubar so Bubba got creative with a trailer option. The longer wheelbase trucks had a maintenance box on the back (like the M201), or a wrecker/tow truck assembly (the XM711).

Re: Rear fender question
The M43 ambulance had the same longer wheelbase as the telephone truck, eTc.
Years back I had a wrecked ambulance and stripped the body off and built it up with an M37 cab and flatbed. Came out just fine.
