PTO install
I will also be installing one soon and have two questions.
(1) How do you determine how many gaskets to put on?
(2) What is the relative engine speed to PTO output ratio?
(I'm thinking about adding a hydraulic pump to the output)

The way to determine how many shims are needed is as follows: Remove the cover opposite the PTO, set up a dial indicator on the input gear to check the backlash between the PTO input gear & the counter shaft gear it meshes with. Be sure the counter shaft gear is held still while checking. Correct backlash is between .003" - .008". Add or subtract shims from the PTO mounting until the aceptable backlash specs are obtained.

well we got it in used 5 bolts and 1 stud so we didn't have to drop the trans again, also had to hold the clutch pedal down with the spring disconnected, didn't have gi gaskets so I made 2 from felt gasket paper and stacked em seems to have plenty of play but still need to check backlash, the book says the gi gaskets are .005" thick and to start with 6 stacked and measure backlash while tightening the pto, if it drops below .001 on the dial indicator stop tightening and add more gaskets for spacing or damage will occur to pto gears, a good pic of the backlash being checked would be nice the one in the book sucks
