1952 project coming along
We have had some setbacks and the current situation isn't helping but it's coming along. I did find 4 combat rims so those will be fixed up as well. I don't think I'm going to keep the hard top, I have a new soft top and I don't have anywhere to keep the hart top. I am going to try to fit it in storage but it might not fit. Power steering from Snake River 4x4 is done, a pulley in the kit is not very tough, my friend made a crazy tough one for me. Winches are so expensive I might just get another bumper. I have an M151 heater going in and we just fixed the radiator. Since we are in lockdown I fixed up the driver seat and put the new covers on it, nice memory foam top layer. I have a spotlight and that will go back on too. There used to be a door mounted spare, I see the holes, I would like to put one on it and then I can use one of my old non combat rims on that with an original Goodyear tire that came on a combat rim. I'll keep the real usable spare in the bed, there is a mount there.

Yeah it was on hold off and on so at least there is progress. Andy tipped me off to three combat wheels and Midwest Military had one laying around and I snapped that one up, I thought I was going to be stuck with three!Cal_Gary wrote:Thanks Morgan for the updates-nice photos too!

I have 4 combat rims that I hope to have mounted this year with NDTs; planning on some all-terrain snow tires for the standard M37 rims, with Winter not too far away!

Re: 1952 project coming along
Morgan,
When are you going to be done with your rig?!?!?
I'm looking forward to holding up traffic with you on Hwy 1
!
There are 1, possibly 2, events coming up in June that you may want to attend if the truck's on the road. There's the Power Wagon Rally 6/26-28 and there may be another event the week prior, but nothing official yet. We will go the Power Wagon Rally if they hold it.
It's time to get that thing out to play!

Re: 1952 project coming along
Well we have had some setbacks with covid, having to do another job for a year.. and the fires in CA also made it impossible to work at my friends shop due to the smoke, then there were some supply chain issues. I am getting the rest of my brake parts from Charles at M Series soon, he had some labor issues etc.. but soon I hope we can get that part done. I just got five 1100R16 Michelin XZL tires to go with my combat wheels, so that's looking up. They are new with a 2019 date, they are on ebay right now if anyone wants to get some, Colony Tire in Norfolk as them listed. I spent some time in Moab and I decided I wanted to build this so it can do some difficult trails, not crawling but to handle some intermediate stuff without worrying. I was going to put a 318 in the truck but my mechanic friend has a good set up planned with an LS now. We should be hitting the project hard as soon as we get the brake parts and a few other things soon. Oh and I got some of those mirror mounts from Midwest Military, they are really nice and very strong. I got a rearview mirror from them too so I can screw it in the windshield frame, and I have to say its a really nice mirror, I'm not sure if it's from some other model vehicle with a little bracket added to it for mounting in the M37s. Anyway I highly recommend those, they are very nice.

Re: 1952 project coming along
Nice to see you are getting back to it. Covid did a job on everyone. During the lockdown having to stay at home I actually got more done on the old M37 than in years past.

Well if I had a garage or any space at all we might have done some things but it is at my friend's shop about 40min away. I work on shows so we were shut down and I was making less than half of what I usually do, I couldn't spend money not knowing when we were going back to work.
Re: 1952 project coming along
Morgan,
Glad you're back at it! I have 2 M37's in the Shop right now
. Parts are scattered everywhere

I know that feeling. Being myself a freelance professional, I've had to postpone plans lot of times.
It's all about prioritizing. During bad times, you stop doing the expensive stuff to focus on the cheap & small things. This until better times appear.
Part of the game. Keep it up.

Re: 1952 project coming along
Well we are ordering parts now, we should be driving it in time for some warmer weather. The wheels are almost done, three need paint and the other has a stuck ring but the machine shop is going to have a crack at it. We are getting a 4BT Cummins, not crazy HP, 140hp or so. I have 4.89 gears in already. I see Nitro Gears has more options now, I got mine in the Vintage Power Wagons batches and now I think you can just buy them anytime. Anyway things are finally moving along. I have a disk kit up front from M Series and I think my power steering is from Snake River 4x4. I'll have to start thinking about some other parts I have like gauges and the license plate mounts etc.. It's never been registered here, I have all the paperwork, I have some 1951 plates with 52 tags and my YOM form for that. I am not looking forward to the DMV visit! I am annoyed that the real issued plates I have are considered vanity plates now and we have to pay an annual fee. It's been an expensive day but I can't wait to drive this thing around and take it to the state off road recreation area for a shakedown.

Re: 1952 project coming along
Looking good! Those are some big tires. Take some pictures when you have it out!
Re: 1952 project coming along
Yeah they are about 39", Michelin XZLs. I found some new ones and couldn't pass them up, you usually only find them used with 70-80% tread. I've seen a few M37s with combat wheel and XZLs. We just ordered the drivetrain parts so we'll see how shipping goes, but it should only be three weeks or so once we have the parts until it can drive.
