In the three or so years since I have owned my '52 truck, I have never really had it more off road than the occasional vacant lot. But several days ago, was caring for my 5 year old grandson, and he wanted a ride in my truck. So belted him in, and drove around our neighborhood and noted a path down thru some woods, which I have never been down. It went down thru the trees to a low land, where there is a big creek. So turned the hubs to 4X4, and pulled the lever to front axles too, and headed down into the brush. We found near the wet creek where some time ago a big drainage culvert must have been trenched in, so we followed the path along the creek, driving down into and then up out of feeder creeks, some nearly 3 feet deep, and as wide, and sometimes over logs and such. Thru some muddy marshy areas, and we just chugged along, bouncing and bumping and sometimes having to push thru some scrub brush. Finally got to a place too wet and marshy to risk, so turned around and headed back. It was great fun for both of us, and these trucks with their big tall tires, just pull up and out of pretty mucky deep trenches. We got back and I looked under my front, and realized how protected the steering system is behind the front axle. There are other trails off the main one, for exploring another time. We can't wait to do it all over again.
a pic on better ground. Ollie behind the wheel. NAM VET

Off road is always a great time even when things don't go well,
But makes for good laughs later.
The key is Common Sense, and a solid truck.
Looks like you have Both!
Awesome!

Great story and great picture, Nam Vet! I too, love exploring unknown trails but right now the M37 is on standby for the next Winter Storm arriving this weekend.

Re: First Time Off Road
Nice story, thanks for sharing. I too haven't had mine off road anymore than driving across fields for shows.

Re: First Time Off Road
good times! they are the most fun offroad where they kinda belong
Re: First Time Off Road
They love being off the pavement, no doubt about it. These trucks will swallow most of what we throw at them (within reason, of course). I can't wait to take mine out in the woods again.

Thanks for posting the great story and picture. I bet that your grandson will remember that ride for the rest of his life.
