Compression/Timing check

Post by NAM VET »

About 2K miles ago, my 230 motor was re-rebuilt by Charles' group in in NC, after my own rebuild had left a few problems. He re-ringed it, did the valves and guides correctly, and other things. It runs great, and just put in new 12 V batteries, the old ones lasted 9 years. Since it is such a nice cool SC fall day, decided to check my compression and timing. So ran it to hot, then pulled the plugs, check the gaps, about .035 on all, then removed a bit of rust on them, painted them, coated the ends with copper anti-seize. Then ran a compassion check with the plugs out, using my MAC tool tester. All were precisely 120 psi, except #3 being 115. I was really happy with that! Then a timing check, at 545 RPM, at about 6 degrees advanced. No knock either. When I re-installed the plug wires, put some silicone dielectric great on the wire ends. Put new plug washes on the spark plugs.

Of course, it does't run any better, but reassuring to know all is holding up well now. Now to snug up the brake band. A good day,
