Post by Gerry »

Is it better to remove one before the other or doesnt it matter?
Thanks,
Gerry

I always prefered removing the bed first & cab last.

Unless you take out the steering shaft, the cab has to go first. We used 2 slings and a engine hoist. As you lift, the cab need to be pulled rearward as it clears the slope of the shaft. We have also had to tip the cab to clear the shaft. Eitherway the cab hits the box. Not a problem if you are going to blast/paint - but going back on is sure to bump!

He surely meant to say that "unless you take out the steering shaft, the BOX has to go first." If left on the frame, it's in the way of removing the cab.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll take the bed first. I was planning on taking the steering shaft out. Is this complicated to make it easier to leave in?
Thanks,
Gerry

Thanks,
In most of our work here, if the cab is coming off, the steering box/shaft is also coming off. Easier to remove the steering box before the cab. Just disconnect everything & drop it out forward & down, easy.

Thanks Charles. I plan on completely stipping her down and starting my rebuild.
