Looking at the starter pedal - it looks like there is supposed to be a rubber pad over the end for your foot to "grip"? or not? I've never seen one or referenced in the manual.

yep there is a pedal pad (button) it's listed in the parts book under starter parts but doesn't show it in the picture, it's listed as
