is there a five speed that will mate to my 230
my wish list
synchro 'd in top 4 gears or all 5 but a crash box would be fine
overdrive
granny gear
pto easily available
and it needs to be as strong as the rest of my drive train
any ideas ?
would a 1948 2 ton dodge have a five speed
there is one at my local junk yard with a flat head 6
that's why I ask

Re: 5 speed ?s
Don't know of any that will bolt up, with out some type adapter.
Not sure about the 48 2 ton but I will guess it's a larger
Bell/clutch, bolt pattern.
Remember not all 5 speeds are OD.
in fact most are direct drive.

Re: 5 speed ?s
Assuming that the truck in the junkyard is a B-series (aka "pilothouse") two-ton, it might have been built with the optional New Process 38910 five-speed. But I don't think it will have synchros on any of the gears. And it's not likely to be a direct bolt-in swap from the NP88950 (or NP420 if it's been updated) that's in your '52 M37.
A 5-speed box with synchros on all or all except first gear is likely to be a later production model. Back in '48, most civilian trucks (including the civilian Power Wagon) did not come with synchromesh transmissions; the PW didn't get a synchro trans (the NP420 that is in the M37B1) until late '56, and even then the synchros were only on 3rd and 4th gears.
