Broke the inner window glass, AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Note to self: Insure the inner windows screws are tight enough before accelerating to freeway speed. If not expect "SLAM" at about 50mph. DOH!

Well, managed to crack the inner window glass last weekend. Fortunately it was the side that already had a small crack in the corner, now it has a big one. I'm looking for some info regarding installing new glass. Getting the glass cut locally should be pretty easy, but where can I pick up some gasket material? What are the dimensions of the gasket and what's the best way to assemble the whole package?

My other option is to pick up an entire new inner window assembly for ~$175 + shipping. That would give me new glass, frame, and outer weather strip (which I need anyway). Has anyone had experience with these "new" assemblies? Do they fit properly?

my grandpa got one for our 5 ton and he said it was a pain to install and the window is near impossible to get up and down
he said it would have been better to buy another door

always best to rest the open windshield against the open cowl or yes @ 45 or so it will slam and break.

changing the glass was easy

from dark green canadian

finally got a piece of glass cut for the driver side windshield. they wanted an hour @ shop rate to install it in the frame. I opted to do it my self, the guy was kind and gave me two thicknesses of rubber for the gasket and told me to use thinners to help ease it into the frame. he said it also makes the rubber swell to make a good seal.

with the window in it was time to install the wipers,

Do you happen to know the dimensions of the rubber tape? It looks like 1.5"x.063", sound right? Did you use any cement or just a press fit?

just press fit with a bit of mineral spirits, once in place and trimmed add more thinner let it saturate and watch the rubber seal swell

those dimensions seem right the glass shop should have it in stock.

oh thank goodness it wasn't a side window

look and see if you can find a deuce or 5 ton window it seems like those ones are better priced

Easier to just replace the entire assembly Andy. I did both of mine and have had no issues with fitment or quality (those purists out there might not like seeing the "Kuk Young" or whatever brand is sealed in the corner, but Intend to hide mine with a couple of decals when the time comes.

As an FYI aside from the main issue, for side windows I did the partial breakdown myself (lubing and loosening the window frame screws) then had a glass guy replace the pane, using the broken one for sizing the new one. That ran me $100 bucks 10 years ago, but is riding well, also with no issues.

I just installed glass in the front and door windows. Got the rubber strips from local Summit Racing Store but I would imagine there are many other sources for you at local glass stores.
I just used a mixture of liquid dish washing detergent and a little water mixed together. Positioned the rubber tape as best I could in the frame then slid the glass in. Worked like a charm. Cut excess tape with a razor blade. Use oil or thinner as suggested to swell the rubber. Each window installed in well under an hour. Chasing the threads on the frame screw holes before installation is a good idea. Having a helper is a must. You'll need three or four hands.

I sometimes cheat and bend the twist with some needle nose and slide the frame out leaving the hinge behind.

RMS makes a good point-I snapped off all of my hinge retaining screws changing mine. You don't want to tackle that job, trust me.
