Couple more pics
Actually started filling some of the repairs to the rocker panels I made last year. And started some on top of cowl that I replaced. Hope to maybe paint cab this weekend if weather is nice. I don't care for painting in the shop as it gets on welders, tool boxes etc, So outside in the sun for me.
Finally got the cowl about done, all primed, but then found one low spot along edge so had to touch up a little after this pic, then prime again. these cowls are anything but straight across. they tend to slope in a couple different directions.
This truck had one driver side mirror, not sure if original or not. Either way my wife wants a passenger side mirror as well, She is only 5'3" so looking over tailgate is about impossible. So I decided to make brackets for the passenger side same as driver side. Of course had to straighten driver side as they were all bent up. I made a new arm for mirror as well. Similar to driver side. The arm at top has been welded in the middle so I'm thinking someone made that one. Made out good with mirror brackets, actually better as mine are straight the mirror brackets seemed to be angled forward slightly so I made mine that way as well.

Neat trick for bending flat bar tight. I have a bender for flat bar/solid rod etc, but it wont bend it tight like say 3/8". So I use {2} 4" x 3/8 bolts, or whatever size loop you need. Like could use 1/2" bolts for 1/2" loop. Clamp them in the vise with stock material between them, to give you the space. If you tried to bend the flat bar now, it would force the tops of the bolts outwards. So... slip a piece of pipe that fits close to the distance the bolts are apart. This piece of stock was 1-1/4" x 3/16" and I bent it a tight 3/8" cold. Just hammer and hold one end against bolt. Stupid trick but easy to do.
On a totally unrelated M37 topic but really tasty subject, April 11th blue crab season opens....come on summer!!!...Ok returning to regular scheduled programming!!!
The mirror that was on the driver side used the windshield pivot point. That cast piece that mounts on side of cowl. Not sure where it was originally. But didn't look bad. So I made one for other side just like it. If wrong at lest the same.
Summer my favorite time of year. My cousin crabs and I'm lucky enough to get them all summer and go to beach most every week. Someone else can keep the snow!
Where on the Eastern shore are you, St. Mike's/ Easton? Hour plus drive is great. I used one of the fording bolt holes, I try and post a pic, I never thought about doing the opposite of the drivers side?
I'm about 3 miles from the ocean. Eastern side of eastern shore. About 2 hours from bay bridge roughly. Never saw another m37 around here and lived here while life. Very few military trucks of any kind really
There is at least one in St. Mary's, but that is another area completely. I am from Baltimore originally, OC used to be my fav destination! Dewy, Rehobeth, I guess you know how lucky you are?
That's way cool you came here.
Yup very blessed, My family has long history around here, something like around 300 years worth. Couple cool things, My great grandfathers fishing camp was were the inlet is now, until the storm in 1932 washed it away. My grandmother was Dan Trimpers secretary {trimpers rides} needless to say I spent a lot of time riding the rides, all on a note from my grandmother. Ahhhh those were the days when a kid could roam free with no worries.
Maybe sometime your down this will say hi, maybe a show or something.
I remember Frontier Town, when it was brand new, that is how many times I have been downey ocean. If we aren't careful, Monkey Man will yell at us for being off topic? The last time I visited the shore was 2000, when we moved my pop here from Easton.
